Recently, professional tennis star Simona Halep revealed that she had undergone breast reduction surgery to help her on the tennis court as well as combat lower back pain. As more and more female athletes turn to breast reduction surgery to help their game more women are considering the question, “Should I or shouldn’t I?”

Halep made the decision to reduce the size of her breasts from a 34DD to a 34C. After she recovered fully from surgery and returned to the court she climbed in the rankings by over 450 spots, to now be ranked at 18 worldwide. “I think it’s definitely helped my play because a lot of it comes from mentally being more confident in myself,” Halep said. Any woman who has larger breasts and has exercised or partaken in rigorous physical activity can attest to their breasts being a bit of a bother.

It can be difficult to focus on your fitness when you have trouble breathing through two sports bras or feel discomfort when you are trying to trim those last few pounds. Aching, soreness, and frustration can all accompany the already grueling schedules of a female athlete or a woman who is just simply trying to get in better shape. So, is breast reduction surgery something you should think about if you find yourself uncomfortable during or after physical activity?

Yes! Whether you are a professional female athlete who is going for a goal or just a woman who seems to not be as comfortable as she would like during her day-to-day routines, breast reduction is a procedure you can consider to make it easier. If they are hurting more than helping consider a consultation with your physician to discuss how your breasts can no longer feel like an obstacle.
