What is AviClear?

AviClear is the first FDA-cleared laser treatment for mild, moderate, and severe acne. This advanced acne treatment has quickly grabbed the attention of several publications and won “Best Laser Treatment for Acne” by Cosmopolitan, and was designated the “Future of Beauty” by Elle in 2022.

  • Effective Acne Treatment: AviClear is specifically designed to target and treat acne, effectively reducing the occurrence of pimples, blackheads, and other acne-related issues.

How does acne form?

Acne forms when the pores around your hair follicles become clogged. Sebum (the oily substance on your skin) is released by the sebaceous gland deep within your skin to help keep your skin hydrated and protect your skin’s natural barrier. Excess oil combined with dead skin cells allows bacteria to grow in the clogged pore and creates a lesion or pimple.

Most people experience some form of acne in their lifetime, but it’s particularly prevalent in teens and young adults. That said, acne can form at almost age and for a number of reasons. For some people, acne clears over time or with the help of targeted cleansers and topical treatments. But for others, acne persists or reappears at intervals well into adulthood and can be challenging to treat.

How does AviClear work?

AviClear laser treatments target the root cause of acne: the sebaceous gland. Using a 1726nm wavelength (a type of laser frequency), AviClear selectively targets and suppresses the sebaceous glands to decrease sebum production—one of the leading causes of acne.

AviClear vs. traditional acne treatments

Topical treatments often contain harsh chemicals and are less effective at treating the source of acne formation. Oral medication can be more effective than topical products but may have bothersome and even serious side effects. AviClear is a safe and effective acne treatment that only uses laser light to target the root causes of acne formation deep within the skin.

What does treatment with AviClear feel like?

AviClear features exclusive AviCool™ sapphire skin cooling technology and sensory controls that maintain your skin’s temperature during treatment for a more comfortable experience. Some patients report a slight stinging sensation, similar to a rubber band snap, but do not require any medication to relieve the temporary sensation or need to pause the treatment. AviClear laser treatment sessions take about 30 minutes.

What is laser acne treatment recovery like?

After treatment, mild effects such as redness and inflammation are common but should quickly fade. You can return to your normal daily activities after your laser acne treatment. That said, you must be diligent about applying a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 to protect your skin while it recovers as well as to prevent premature signs of aging and skin cancer in the long term. We also ask that you avoid occlusive products like Vaseline or Aquaphor to allow your skin to breathe during your treatment series.

What are the benefits of AviClear?

Patients who receive AviClear laser treatments enjoy numerous benefits:

  • No downtime
  • No harsh chemicals
  • No prescription needed
  • Safe on all skin types (Fitzpatrick Scale I-VI)
  • Quick treatment times
  • Few, if any, side effects
  • Long-lasting results
  • Can be used on multiple parts of the body (back, shoulders, chest, ect.)
  • FDA-cleared

Some of the most notable benefits of AviClear go far beyond skin deep. Research shows that acne sufferers may develop conditions such as depression, anxiety, low-self esteem, feelings of isolation, and a decreased quality of life. Quickly and effectively treating acne with AviClear will alleviate the emotional trauma associated with blemished skin and also prevent permanent acne scars.

How many acne laser treatments will I need?

Patients will receive a series of 3 treatments scheduled 4-6 weeks apart. This allows your skin time to recover between treatments for optimal results.

About 90% of patients are satisfied with their results one month after the final treatment. Many patients see continued improvement for six months or more post-treatment.

Are AviClear laser treatments safe?

Unlike most traditional acne treatments, AviClear is free of chemicals or toxins, and no adverse side effects were reported during clinical trials.

The 1726nm wavelength is only absorbed by the sebaceous gland—not by the melanin (pigment) in the skin. Thus AviClear won’t cause pigmentation irregularities (hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation) in patients with deeper skin tones.
