Everything You Wanted to Know About Non-Surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation (But Were Afraid to Ask)

Nearly all women experience undesirable changes below the bikini line as we age. Yet information about treatments for loosened vaginal tissues, urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, and other issues can be hard to find—if you suffer from any of these, you may even wonder if it’s normal.

Coming from a female cosmetic surgeon who is not getting any younger, believe me when I say you are absolutely, 100% normal. What is more, you have options to treat all of the above! We’re now offering ThermiVa non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation at Inland Cosmetic Surgery, and we’re excited about the dramatic improvements in natural lubrication, comfort during sex, and boost in confidence our patients have seen so far.

If you are experiencing problems that may be addressed with vaginal rejuvenation, you may not feel ready to ask questions in person about this sensitive issue, so I have answered five of the questions I hear most from my patients below.

1. Does vaginal rejuvenation help with urinary incontinence?

Do you pee a little when you sneeze, laugh, or go for a run? So do most women who’ve had a vaginal birth—and it’s true that ThermiVa can help improve a leaky bladder. The RF energy thickens and tones the vaginal wall, helping to reinforce the muscles that that keep the urinary bladder under control. Most patients experience significant, but not complete reduction in stress incontinence. However, in some cases ThermiVa is enough to take care of the issue for months.

2. Can ThermiVa vaginal rejuvenation help increase orgasms?

Whether or not a patient experiences more or better orgasms after ThermiVa depends on many factors, including your prior history with orgasms and what specific issues may have been lowering the quality of your sexual experiences. If you have never been able to have orgasms in the past, ThermiVa is unlikely to change that.

However, ThermiVa does tone and tighten the vaginal canal, restore natural vaginal lubrication, and enhance healthy blood flow to the genitals—all of which can significantly improve sexual sensation. If you have noticed the quality or frequency of orgasms decline after having children or due to chronic vaginal dryness after menopause, there is a very good chance non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation with ThermiVa can help.

While we’re on the subject of orgasms, we should mention that getting ThermiVa may also enhance your partner’s sexual experience!

3. Does ThermiVA hurt?

The thought of any medical device going near your nether regions can be off-putting, but ThermiVa is remarkably gentle—and painless! The main treatment mechanism to tighten tissues and increase natural lubrication is radiofrequency energy, which is emitted via a thin, smooth wand-like device. It feels like a mildly warm transvaginal ultrasound. Following treatment, you can go right back to normal activities.

4. How much does vaginal rejuvenation cost?

Prices for ThermiVa or any vaginal rejuvenation treatment vary depending on a patient’s goals and the number of treatments needed to achieve them. However, a ballpark estimate for ThermiVA is about $1,200 per treatment, and most patients choose to have 2 to 3 treatments for optimal results. Surgical procedures or ThermiVa with additional procedures, such as fat injections, usually cost more.

One tip: when you are ready to meet with cosmetic surgeons, be sure to factor in the cost of consultation and inquire about financing options if you need help fitting treatments into your budget.

5. How long do ThermiVa results last?

ThermiVa results are long-lasting. Typically, our patients experience full benefits for about 1 year after an initial three-treatment series—an annual follow-up is usually sufficient to maintain the effects for several years. However, like any cosmetic treatment, ThermiVa cannot stop the natural tissue aging process. Eventually, the collagen boost it offers may not be sufficient to completely correct vaginal laxity, although it can still offer significant benefit over doing nothing.
