Toe Shortening in CA

Is one of your toes abnormally longer than it should be? Most people who have a longer second toe (next to your big toe) or other lesser toes suffer with the difficult task of finding footwear that fits properly and may eventually develop structural deformities.

If you’re unhappy about the length of one or more of your toes, you have options that can help restore a more well-balanced foot. Surgical Arts of the Inland Empire’s toe shortening surgery is a relatively quick procedure that will give you permanent results.

Am I a Candidate for Toe Shortening in Southern California?

Our feet play an important role in our daily lives. This is why the slightest issue with them can make daily tasks, like walking or putting on a pair of shoes, difficult or even painful. Whether the length of your toes is causing you significant pain, or you simply feel they are unattractive, toe shortening may be the right choice for you.

The best candidates are healthy and possess realistic expectations. We will be able to determine if toe shortening is right for you following a clinical evaluation with one of our podiatry experts in Rancho Cucamonga.

What Happens During Toe Shortening Surgery?

Generally speaking, toe shortening is an outpatient procedure that will require a general or local anesthetic combined with sedation. The procedure is usually completed in less than an hour.

Using a specialized instrument, your surgeon will remove a portion of bone from your toe. Pins will be placed to hold it in place during recovery. Additionally, some skin will be removed and repositioned over your toe.

Toe Shortening Results and Recovery

Recovery times vary, but it should take at least three months to fully recover from surgery. It is likely that you will experience some pain and swelling. A combination of pain medication and ice packs will help mitigate this discomfort.

You will need to wear a special shoe to protect your toe during the healing process. You may also need crutches to help you get around during the first few weeks, but most patients are able to walk normally after about four weeks.
