Inland Cosmetic Newsletter April 2007Clear, Tighten & Rejuvenate Your Skin
The Fotofacial improves your skin with each treatment, decreasing the appearance of sun spots, age spots, melasma, brown spots, broken capillaries, spider veins and even rosacea. The skin tightening will painlessly treat skin laxity, lifting the skin while reducing lines and wrinkles. It is a revolutionary technology that allows for a non-surgical facelift since it modestly tightens lax skin and lifts but is not invasive like a facelift. "Hair today, gone tomorrow" is what we hope for, we can now predictably and safely treat both dark and minimally pigmented hair on most skin types. Say good bye to ingrown hair follicles, razor burns, and daily shaving rituals. We have seen amazing results from the use of this new technology. We encourage you to come in and consult with our physicians about how the laser system can improve your beautiful skin. When Was Your Last Skin Check-Up?
By visualizing the damaged areas beneath your skin, we are able to prevent further damage and restore your skin's youth, texture and health. With this added capability and use of the skin analyzer we can systemically diagnose, develop a holistic plan and address all your cosmetic skin needs not only by surgery but also by non-invasive laser care. To find out more information and see how the VISIA system can benefit you, contact our knowledgeable esthetician, Marlene to schedule your complimentary skin care consultation. Belly Button Breast Augmentation
To the patients that have had this procedure and continue to refer their friends and loved ones to us, we thank you! Please make sure that the referrals mention your name when they come in because when they have the surgery you will automatically get a gift from us. Are You Ready for a Tummy Tuck or only Liposuction?
What is a Tummy Tuck? A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a procedure for patients that have loose skin, stretch marks and loose abdominal muscles. This may be due to previous pregnancies, weight loss and aging. A full abdominoplasty involves a long incision, removal of excess skin and fat, tightening of abdominal muscles and re-implantation of the belly button in new skin. This is a fairly extensive procedure and requires a 3-6 week recovery. The closer the patient is to their ideal body weight the easier it is to accomplish the desired look and the easier the recovery. The modified tummy tuck or the mini-tuck is not quite as extensive as the full tummy tuck. It involves a shorter incision, less skin removal, some liposuction and muscle tightening of the lower abdomen only (below the belly button), with or without transposition of the belly button. This is more suitable for patients who have laxity of skin and muscle mostly in the lower abdomen and a fairly tight upper abdomen. What about Liposuction with Skin Removal? For patients that tend to store most of their fat in the abdomen and have excess bulk with some skin laxity, liposuction with a dermolipectomy (excess skin removal) is the treatment of choice. This frequently occurs in women after multiple births with weight gain and sagging skin. Liposuction is performed with the standard tumescent technique or the VASER assisted Lipo-Selection of the entire abdomen and waist region and then some of the loose skin between the belly button to the pubic area is removed. This usually results in a smaller scar and a faster recovery. Can I Combine Tummy Tuck and Liposuction? It is generally not recommended to combine a full tummy tuck and extensive liposuction. This may result in a higher rate of complications and even longer recovery. Therefore, patients that require both procedures extensively, may choose to have liposuction first then followed by a tummy tuck 6-12 months later. In a small number of cases it is possible to perform the tummy tuck, followed by a touch up liposuction session. Is Liposuction Right for Me? Patients that have retained fairly good skin elasticity and have minimal skin laxity with some excess fat may achieve their goal of a flatter stomach with liposuction only. Liposuction removes the excess fat cells but not the overlying skin, but it does stimulate skin contraction over time. Even in older patients it is quite surprising how well the skin will contract. Liposuction surgery is mainly considered a contouring procedure and is not a method of weight reduction. It can be useful, as an adjunct to diet and physical conditioning in the management of contour problems. The success of liposuction depends on patient's post op weight management and care as well as his/her skin elasticity. From Dr. Haiavy's Desk

Introducing: Natural Lift For A Revitalized Look
Although I am proud to say that most of our patients rave about how natural they look after their facelifts there are still a large number of patients that are not ready for a facelift per say. To those patients we offer the option of a non-surgical facelift with the ReFirme laser skin tightening and combination of fillers (Restylane, Juvederm, Hylaform) and Botox with no down time. Depending on their needs, we also frequently perform a combination of the endoscopic brow lift and the recently FDA approved Silhouette Threads. This combination improves the upper face, brow and eyelid region, cheeks and all the way down to the jaw line. This combination requires just about one week of recovery and the results are dramatic yet very natural. During the course, I showed before and after pictures of a few patients undergoing the above procedures and performed two live thread lifts as well. The surgeons participating in the course were quite impressed with the results. We're Expanding In More Ways Than One!
On a personal level, my wife and I are expecting our second child in May. Our 14-month old son is keeping us busy in the meantime. It is amazing to see him grow so fast! Other than seeing my patients transformed and happy with their results my son and wife are the joy of my life and keep me going on a daily basis. Some of you may have seen Benjamin in the office since - I do not see him much during the week, and he wants to be in my lap when in the office. We started him on an early training! Update On Silicone Gel Implants
In addition, we have performed quite a few re-augmentations for patients that did not like the "feel" of the saline implants or those that had rippling (wrinkling). I therefore have decided to give our previous patients an incentive if they wish to replace their saline implants with the new Silicone Gel implants. To the patients that are willing to participate in the continued study for the silicone implants, the implant company offers an additional financial incentive when they keep up with their follow-up appointments and participate in their surveys.
