What is Gastrectomy Surgery in Southern California?
A gastrectomy is a bariatric surgery designed to help a person gradually lose weight. During a gastrectomy procedure, one of our Rancho Cucamonga cosmetic surgeons will surgically remove all or part of the stomach in order to reduce hunger and encourage ongoing weight loss.
Different Types of Gastrectomy in Rancho Cucamonga
Dr. Tower or our Board Certified Bariatric Surgeon will sit with you during your consultation to discuss your expectations and decide which gastrectomy procedure will be most effective in safely achieving your goals. The different types of gastrectomy surgery performed at Southern California’s Surgical Arts of the Inland Empire include:
Partial gastrectomy: Only a portion of the stomach is removed. Your board certified bariatric surgeon will reroute the small intestine from the smaller remaining portion of the stomach.
Total (or full) gastrectomy: Your Southern California bariatric surgeon will remove the entire stomach, then carefully attaches the esophagus to the small intestine.
Sleeve gastrectomy: A large part of the stomach is removed (roughly 85%) in order to create a tube or sleeve shaped stomach which leads into the small intestine.
